2016 Fundraising events
With a target of £100,000 set, to close the final gap for the monument’s production and installation costs, the 2016 Project Vernon calendar had included two major events, plus a range of minor fundraising activities… each one helps to raise funds for Project Vernon. Each is an ongoing testimony to the determination and energies of our core team of dedicated supporters to organise opportunities through which we will reach our ultimate goal.
Our significant London-based event is planned to be a reception, dinner and auction. This is now likely to be held in the spring of 2017 (based fundamentally upon the personal availability of our preferred patron for this event). Forward planning for such special evenings takes many months and so we have kept to our proven strategy of focusing on raising larger sums, from a small number of significant opportunities. Regrettably, due to a combination of criteria, the Portsmouth-based Vernon Heritage Conference scheduled for 23 September has had to be cancelled.
Specific thanks must be given again to the sponsoring Associations that are directly involved with Project Vernon: each has donated further funds this year, all very significant given the respective size of their contributing membership.
All support or participation provided towards our campaign is always very warmly received, so should you have an initiative in mind, do please float the idea past the Organising Management Committee, so that we can help provide support for all fundraising endeavours, wherever possible: Rob Hoole’s recent abseil down Spinnaker Tower (in August 2016), is a highly commended, financially successful, personal contribution, very much appreciated by the Vernon Monument Fund trustees and other fellow Project Vernon supporters.
