Founded in 2008, Project Vernon is the campaign name of the charity committed to designing, constructing and installing a monument in the centre of the site previously occupied by HMS Vernon, in Portsmouth, Hants: home to a range of specialist warfare organisations over several centuries, the world of underwater warfare was the focus of many personnel who worked, trained and were based in this site.

Background
 
HMS Vernon originally hosted the Mining and Torpedo Schools, from which the Clearance Diving and Mine Warfare branches evolved.
The three logos below represent the original warship (later a shore establishment) (Left); the Victorian and Edwardian-era training schools (Centre), which were the forebears of today's Underwater Warfare specialists.
The logo developed for Project Vernon (Right) aims to represent all those who worked, trained and were based in HMS Vernon over the years of its existence, to preserve the heritage of this famous, unique site and all the people who passed through its gates.
